Konecranes acquires ports service business in Italy
Konecranes has on 31 July signed an agreement to acquire the ports service
business of Italian service company Technical Services S.R.L. The acquired
operations specialize in providing maintenance and engineering services to port
terminals, shipyards, shipping companies and related equipment manufacturers.
Technical Services was founded in 1998 and is based in Vado Ligure, close to
Genoa in north-western Italy. Total sales of the company was in 2006 EUR 1.8
million. The two previous owners of the company and a workforce of 20 service
professionals join the Konecranes organization in Italy. Technical Services and
Konecranes Italy have been cooperating for a number of years and this agreement
is a natural continuation of this relationship.
“This addition to the existing Konecranes service network further strengthens
our position in Italy and the Mediterranean area,” says Trygve Boström,
Director, Ports Service at Konecranes. “Italy has a high and fast-growing
container throughput and Konecranes now adds one more base to support port
equipment sales and serve customers in the Mediterranean area”.
Konecranes Ports Service's main customers are harbors, terminals and shipyards.
With 20 dedicated service offices in more than 10 countries, Konecranes Ports
Service is part of the company's global Service network serving customers
worldwide. The product range covers servicing most types of port equipment,
from terminal tractors and lifttrucks to big gantry cranes for ports and
shipyards, including equipment made by Konecranes and other makes.
