KONECRANES TO DELIVER 16 RTGS TO APM TERMINALS
Konecranes has received an important order for Rubber Tired Gantry (RTG) cranes from APM Terminals. It is an order in two parts. Twelve RTGs will be delivered to APM Terminals Algeciras, in Spain. Four RTGs will be delivered to APM Terminals Apapa in Lagos, Nigeria. The order was booked in the fourth quarter of 2014.
The Konecranes RTG cranes on order for APM Terminals Algeciras are high-performance, 16-wheel RTGs with a lifting capacity of 41 tons, a stacking height of 1-over-5, and a stacking width of 6 plus truck lane wide.
They will be equipped with Konecranes Active Load Control system, which prevents container sway and significantly improves container handling performance. DGPS Autosteering is included, which keeps the crane on a pre-programmed, straight driving path. They will also be equipped with a Stack Collision Prevention system and Konecranes’ TRUCONNECT® remote monitoring system.
The cranes are scheduled to be delivered at the end of 2015 and the beginning of 2016. The parties involved have agreed not to disclose the value of the order.
“It’s very satisfying to win this order from APM Terminals. It’s a breakthrough order in Europe, a sign of the company’s confidence in our technology and ability to support our cranes. We’ll make sure that their confidence in us is justified,” says Ville Hoppu, Sales Manager, Konecranes/Port Cranes.
Four for Lagos
Four Konecranes RTGs will also be delivered to APM Terminals Apapa in Lagos, Nigeria. This is a repeat order that will bring the total number of Konecranes RTGs operated at Apapa to 14. All 14 Konecranes RTGs are 16-wheel RTGs equipped with a Stack Collision Prevention System, Diesel Fuel Saver technology, DGPS Autosteering and a Crane Management System. They have a lifting capacity of 41 tons, and can stack 1-over-5 containers high and 7-plus-truck lane wide. The cranes are also equipped with Konecranes’ TRUCONNECT® remote monitoring system.
“This repeat order for APM Terminals Apapa shows that our RTGs are very efficient, reliable cranes that APM Terminals is building its Nigerian business on,” says Antoine Bosquet, Sales Director (IMEA), Konecranes/Port Cranes.
