65 MEUR AWARD FOR TRANSMISSION SHIFT TOWER WITH INTEGRATED START/STOP FUNCTION Kongsberg Automotive (KA) has been nominated for its biggest contract so far within the push for greener, environmentally friendly power trains. The customer is a major European car producer and KA was nominated based on an innovative product design. The product (shift tower) is the unit selecting the gears in the transmission based on input from the driver through the shift lever and shift cable. The product makes it possible for the car maker to introduce a start / stop function in the car and thereby taking a major step in meeting the strict environmental requirements facing the auto industry. The start/stop function takes care of automatically shutting down and restarting the engine while driving in congested traffic. The product is strategically important to increase the value delivered by Kongsberg. “This contract has once more demonstrated KA’s ability to work closely together with our customers to meet their need of products in the green segment of the automotive industry”, says Claes Paulsson, Director of Sales & Marketing, Automotive Systems Division. “It has been a long development phase and a great team effort where KA’s engineering group has performed exceptionally well both on the mechanical and electronic part of the program”. The contract, which will commence in 2011, will run over 10 years and is valued to more than 65 MEUR. This contract confirms both KA’s position as well as the commitment to work with the auto industry in its push for product solutions supporting our customers’ effort in providing vehicles that are environment friendly.
