Kongsberg Automotive (KA) announced today that it has won a major contract to deliver shift towers to one of the leading car brands in Europe. The contract is worth EUR 40 millions. KA provides a complete portfolio of gear shift systems ranging from entry level car applications to premium segment cars. The shift towers provide the interface between the gear shift system and the gearbox. “The awarded product is an evolution of the current shift towers KA supplies in Europe, and offers new technology which gives the driver an improved shift feeling”, says Claes Paulsson, Sales Director in Kongsberg Automotive. “The contract will strengthen the position of KA as a global supplier of these products, also in the emerging markets.” “KA is today supplying shift towers to this client, and by securing this new award, KA now becomes the sole supplier of shift towers to this particular transmission system”, says Hans Peter Havdal, CEO at Kongsberg Automotive. “From 2014 to 2024, we estimate that KA in total will supply shift towers valued at MEUR 200 on this platform, a substantial number which confirms our capabilities and leading position in this segment”. The awarded shift towers can be produced in multiple sites to cover the global market need. Production start is set to 2013, and the contract will run over a period of ten years.
