Kongsberg Digital strengthens its position within renewable energy
The KONGSBERG company Kongsberg Renewables Technology becomes part of Kongsberg Digital (KDI).
Kongsberg Renewables Technology delivers advanced technology to the renewable sector and has developed «Kongsberg EmPower», a turbine-independent decision support system based on KONGSBERG's experience in handling critical information and decision-making support systems.
Since EmPower was launched, the company has signed agreements with Arctic Wind for monitoring and decision support to the wind farm at Havøygavelen in the municipality of Måsøy in Finnmark and with Statoil for demo projects in the «Hywind» offshore project.
"Kongsberg Renewables Technology has developed a unique decision support technology for monitoring and forecasting of wind turbines based on analysis of big data generated by turbines and wind parks. EmPower contributes to reduce costs and increase production capacity, which in turn makes wind power a more competitive source of energy. The size and growth estimates for wind power and the renewable sector are considerable, and this is a market of interest for Kongsberg Digital", says Hege Skryseth, President of Kongsberg Digital.
Kongsberg Digital is the latest subsidiary company in KONGSBERG with around 500 specialists who work with software and simulation for the oil & gas and maritime sectors. Integrating Kongsberg Renewables Technology the company will also offer solutions to the energy and utility market.
"Bringing more of the group's digital expertise together in Kongsberg Digital will further strengthen our portfolio and position. The energy and renewable sector is important to Kongsberg Digital, and we see considerable future opportunities in these areas”, says Skryseth.
