Deer Park School District Improves Printing Efficiencies and Lowers Costs with Konica Minolta EnvisionIT Solutions
Integrated Print Tracking and Job Submission Solutions Help Establish Responsible Printing Practices
Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A., Inc. (Konica Minolta) today announces that Deer Park School District in New York has improved printing efficiencies and lowered its print costs by more than $37,000 in six months with Konica Minolta’s EnvisionIT Education solutions. Leveraging bizhub multifunction printers (MFPs) and production print systems, and managed by Nuance Equitrac Express® and PageDNA software, the district has established responsible printing practices throughout its five schools and five ancillary support facilities.
Deer Park School District worked with the Konica Minolta team to right-size its document output fleet and replace its aging copiers and MFPs. The district now has 23 bizhub color and black & white MPFs that are faster, more reliable and energy efficient and can easily handle the needs of each school. To improve print tracking, the district deployed Equitrac print management software to track all print activity, ensuring that users are not going over their monthly print allocations. School staff and teachers can release their print jobs at any of the bizhub MFPs using the Follow-You Printing feature. This has eliminated wasteful printing and created more responsible printing practices by the staff.
“Print efficiency was a critical aspect for us and Konica Minolta was the only vendor who could offer us a comprehensive solution with hardware and software to streamline our document printing,” says Andrew Choi, District Administrator of Instructional Technology, Deer Park School District. “Not only did we immediately lower our printing costs but we improved printing processes and enacted a more sustainable printing strategy.”
To encourage teachers and staff to print high-volume jobs through the Deer Park School District’s in-plant central publication center, the district implemented PageDNA, a web-to-print digital storefront for electronic print submission. Using an online portal, teachers submit a PDF document for fast processing by the in-plant center. As a result, the in-plant center improved efficiencies and reduced job turnaround times from one week to three days.
“School districts can realize significant savings by leveraging in-plant print departments as the cost per impression is much lower,” says Kevin Kern, senior vice president, Marketing, Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A., Inc. “Konica Minolta’s EnvisionIT Education solutions ensure that schools have the tools they need to simplify the printing process, enabling teachers and staff to spend more time in the classroom and less on administrative tasks.”
