ASSMANN takes over leading English manufacturer of room-in-room systems

ASSMANN Büromöbel GmbH & Co. KG has completed its takeover of the British Frem Group Screens Limited. The Melle-based family business acquired the remaining 26 percent of shares in one of England’s leading manufacturers of room-in-room systems at the beginning of December. Now renamed SPACEMANN, the company will operate as an independent development and production facility with a clear differentiation to the sales subsidiary ASSMANN Office Furniture Ltd. All of the approximately 40 employees have kept their jobs.

“Not only does the SPACEMANN takeover give us our own development and production company for room-in-room systems, acoustic walls and soft seating furniture, it will also expand our vertical integration. Besides that, we will have full access to the supply chain, which will help us ensure punctual deliveries and availability” says a visibly delighted Thomas Große-Frintrop. The Assmann Chief Commercial Officer will be the new managing director of SPACEMANN. In addition to Große-Frintrop, the new Board of Directors will consist of Dirk Assmann, Managing Partner, and Andreas Fipp, Head of Industrial Engineering, along with Pat O’Sullivan, Micheal Glenworth and Phil Dingley, their English colleagues from the former Frem Group.

Große-Frintrop played a key role in the takeover process, which began in November 2018 with the acquisition of a 24-percent stake. ASSMANN then purchased another 50 percent and therefore a majority interest two years later. Frem Group Screens Ltd. reported revenues of GBP 4.1 million in 2022. “We have increasingly managed to pass on our ASSMANN DNA to the colleagues in England over the last four years”, says Dirk Assmann. “Now we all speak the same language when it comes to high-quality furnishing solutions for modern working worlds. We will continue down this path together and will, among other things, strengthen our focus on process-optimised mindsets and actions.”

The takeover will not change anything for ASSMANN’s specialist dealers and customers in Germany. Quite the opposite: they will continue to benefit from obtaining everything they need from a single source – from planning and smart new work solutions to office and lounge furniture for modern working environments. Within this framework, SPACEMANN will guarantee very competitively priced products for room-in-room systems that also tick all the boxes for outstanding design. The company will service the entire ASSMANN Group with its product portfolio. Furthermore, there are plans to considerably strengthen its market position for acoustic walls.
