MAYOR ED LEE PROCLAIMS APRIL 19TH MUSEUM OF THE HISTORY OF POLISH JEWS DAY IN SAN FRANCISCO
SAN FRANCISCO, CA— April 19, 2013, has been proclaimed Museum of the History of Polish Jews Day by the City and County of San Francisco. This date marks the 70th anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, and opening day of the state-of-the-art museum in Warsaw, Poland. The proclamation recognizes the wide-reaching influence of this museum, which showcases one thousand years of Jewish history in Poland.
“We are grateful to Mayor Lee for his recognition of the contributions the Museum will make to the community, culture and history of the Jewish people, both locally in Poland and around the world,” said the Honorable Tad Taube, Honorary Consul of Poland in San Francisco and head of Taube Philanthropies and the Koret Foundation. The two Bay Area-based foundations have made the largest private contribution to the museum to-date.
In addition to the involvement of the Koret and Taube foundations, the Museum of the History of Polish Jews benefits from the support and involvement of numerous Bay Area residents. A VIP delegation of nearly 50 people traveled to Warsaw for the events, including several Bay Area donors and members of the museum’s Board of Trustees.
Thousands are expected to attend the commemorative events in Warsaw, including the President of the Republic of Poland Bronisław Komorowski, religious and political leaders, as well as surviving Warsaw Ghetto fighters and Jewish community members from Poland, the U.S. and elsewhere. The commemoration events will be broadcast live on JLTV and streamed online at http://www.jltv.tv/live on April 19 at 10:00 a.m. Central European Time (1 a.m. PDT). They will also be re-broadcast on Monday, April 22, 12-2 p.m. PDT; Thursday, April 25, 12-2 p.m. PDT; and Saturday, April 27, 8-10 p.m. PDT.
