A perfectly working tattoo machine made out of glass – can it be done?
Ludvig Löfgren, glass designer at Kosta Boda, attempts to create a tattoo machine made out of glass after being challenged by tattoo machine veteran Mats Jadeskär.
Can it be done? We don’t know. It’s never been done before. But we’re sure gonna try….. In discussion, Ludvig Löfgren and Mats Jadeskär were playing with the idea of making a fully operational tattoo machine in glass. Ludvig Löfgren is known for pushing the limits with his designs in glass and Mats has previously challenged conventions in the world of tattoo machines. Together they agreed to attempt what has never been done before.
Over the summer, Ludvig and Mats will work jointly in trying to find a design and technique which will enable them to make a working machine. If successful, the final result will be presented at the International London Tattoo Convention on September 28-30, 2012. You will find both Ludvig and Mats in booth V63/64 at the convention.
Ludvig Löfgren has been working with Kosta Boda since 2007. Before enrolling at the University College of Arts Crafts and Design in Stockholm, Ludvig Löfgren worked as a glass blower, an experience that gave him both perspective and understanding of glass. His constant search for challenges often results in hours of experimenting, both in the studio and in the hotshop. With his substantial knowledge of glass and artistic talent, he shatters many limits in the Kingdom of Crystal with its fine traditions.
Ludvig comments “From a young age, I have been a great admirer of the craftsmanship of tattooing. So to get a chance and attempt to do a tattoo machine with Mats was an offer I couldn’t refuse!”
