Kvaser announces intention to use Philips Semiconductors' CAN bus and Bluetooth devices for R&D into automotive applications New technology reducing wiring in cars Kvaser, a leading systems integrator of CAN software and hardware to the global automotive market, today announced that it will use Philips Semiconductors' world beating CAN products and Bluetooth silicon in a research and development program to develop interconnecting protocols in automotive applications. It is estimated that by 2006 potential in-vehicle CAN/Bluetooth links are expected to be in around 50% of the world's cars. "We have chosen to co-operate with Philips Semiconductors as they have a leading position in CAN as well as Bluetooth wireless technology," said Lars-Berno Fredriksson, chairman of Kvaser. "This co-operation will enable both companies to drive the implementation of Bluetooth wireless technology in automotive applications." The first results of the co-operation will be presented at the Bluetooth th Conference in Monte Carlo the 13 of June in a joint presentation with Kvaser, Philips Semiconductors and Daimler-Chrysler.
