Kvaser announces master license agreement for CanKingdom. Kvaser, recently announced a master license agreement for the operating system for CAN systems (RTOS-S/CAN) "CanKingdom." The licensee is the non profit company CanKingdom International Inc., (CKI) based in Chicago, USA, owned by its members. The first CKI board meeting will be held in Gothenburg on October 31 and is co-ordinated with a seminar session. Presentations at the seminar will be made by some of the most experienced CAN real time system designers in the world as Dave Purdy from the US Navy and Jeff Ehlers from Mercury Marine. "We are very pleased and proud to see that CanKingdom now gets an open and efficient organization of its own. CKI will strengthen the further development of CanKingdom and will be a natural hub for worldwide CanKingdom activities" says Lars-Berno Fredriksson, president of Kvaser. Jeff Ehlers, Director Integrated Electronics Mercury Marine, stated after the announcement that: "CanKingdom provides Mercury Marine with the power and flexibility to bring revolutionary drive-by-wire technology to the marine industry. Since CAN Kingdom is based on the philosophy that an omnipotent device (the King) is in control of the network (the Kingdom), it is ideally suited for safety critical control applications. We are very happy with our decision to leverage the CanKingdom specification and look forward to helping move CanKingdom into the mainstream as part of the CanKingdom International (CKI) organization." CanKingdom is now widely used in different areas as unmanned vehicles, marine applications, medical equipment, mobile hydraulics, avionics etc. It is mainly used in advanced systems requiring a small overhead as well as high real time and safety properties. Current development is directed towards expansion into supporting the Time Triggered CAN (TTCAN) and Bluetooth technologies. Kvaser, headquartered in Gothenburg, Sweden, is a company developing software and hardware products for advanced real time systems (RTOS-S), with its core know-how in the CAN and Bluetooth protocols.
