Interested in finding out more about careers, why not take part in the Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland’s President’s Initiative ‘Discover Careers – from farm to fork’?

The Lantra stand is one of the stops on the career pathway (Stand 199, 7th Avenue, right in the centre of Ingliston’s Royal Highland Showground) devised for the ‘Discover Careers – from farm to fork’ initiative whose aim is to raise awareness of the wide variety of skills required and careers offered within the sector. Lantra, the Sector Skills Council for environmental and land-based industries can offer an insight into a range of exciting careers in 17 industries, from game and wildlife management, to trees and timber and agriculture. With a variety of careers literature on display that illustrate career and progression opportunities, and staff from on hands to answer any questions, why not come along and see what’s on offer. Willie Fergusson, National Director for Scotland said: “There are often many misconceptions about jobs in the sector but it’s no longer just about muddy wellies, unsocial hours and manual graft. There is a great need for skilled managerial, high-tech and specialist people who seek exciting, dynamic and highly responsible roles that are well rewarded financially, and with many hands-on roles too, there’s something for everyone.” He continued: “In Scotland the sector employs approximately 115,700 people but Lantra estimates that the sector will need at least 1,000 new workers each year to meet demand, this means there are plenty of opportunities for the new generation of employees.” Staff from Lantra Awards will be on-hand with details of their accredited courses, and will be happy to discuss your training needs.
