Following trials in UK colleges a National Student Database is being adopted by lecturers to help complete the new Foundation Learning Tier it was announced today. In the coming academic year all colleges are expected to deliver the Foundation Learning Tier which aims to prepare 14 to 19-year-olds for further study or the world of work. Testing has shown Lantra’s online National Student Database helps students record and present their skills for qualifications in areas such as employability and interpersonal skills. Lantra’s Rob Lloyd-Jones explains: “The National Student Database maps the skills needed to do a particular job role against the skills an individual student has. The software then converts this information into a CV or evidence for an NVQ or City and Guilds. “The National Student Database can help evidence mandatory units such as Planning for Progression and Effective Qualities for learning, as well as optional units such as career planning, work-based learning and working towards goals.” Lecturer Rob Storer, from Otley College, said: "The National Student Database is a great idea and is an additional resource that our students have used in assisting them in their quest to gain employment, post the college experience. "Any help that our students can gain in helping them progress their future careers is a positive as far as we are concerned, and we are looking forward to seeing this resource expand its range of services to assist our learners in the future."
