MCGLONE COMPLETES SUCCESSFUL RUN AS LANTRA CHAIR
Dr Gordon McGlone OBE, is bidding a fond farewell to Lantra after eight years of successfully chairing the Sector Skills Council responsible for skills and business development in the land-based sector. Gordon was appointed to as Chair in April 2002, shortly after Lantra was licensed as a full Sector Skills Council. Under his guidance Lantra has gone from strength to strength, being successfully relicensed in 2004 and again in 2009. The skills landscape has changed greatly during Gordon’s appointment, and as he retires, it is now widely accepted that a highly-skilled workforce is an important aspect to business success. Lantra Chief Executive, Peter Martin said, “Gordon has helped steer Lantra through eight challenging years, and the organisation has changed dramatically over that time. His interest in skills and environmental industries is evident in everything he does and Lantra has benefited significantly from his leadership. We are deeply grateful for Gordon’s time and work with Lantra and wish him all the best in his future endeavours.” Gordon has brought a wealth of knowledge on the sector to the position as Chief Executive of the Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust. The Trust has 25,000 members and 1,000ha of nature reserves and is dedicated to biodiversity conservation and promoting understanding of the environment. Gordon said, “It has been an incredible experience working with Lantra these past eight years, and seeing how the land-based and environmental sector has changed. The nation is moving into a truly fascinating time, as we look into issues such as climate change, food supply and biodiversity. I’m proud of the work that Lantra has achieved during my time as Chair, and have every confidence that they will continue their work supporting these vital industries.” Gordon will be replaced by Valerie Owen OBE, a multi-disciplinary professional and founding member of the Chartered Society of Environmentalists.
