Lantra Sector Skills Council has announced today that Modern Apprenticeship frameworks for land-based engineering have been published and are now available to use.

Over the past year, Lantra has undertaken an extensive review with businesses, other industry professionals and training providers to review land-based engineering Modern Apprenticeships and ensure they are kept relevant and up-to-date to meet the changing needs of industry professionals. Following this review, a new level 2 Modern Apprenticeship has been developed and introduced following demand from businesses, and the level 3 framework revised. The new level 2 Modern Apprenticeship in land-based engineering is the first framework at this level to be made available to the industry in Scotland. Willie Fergusson, National Director for Lantra said: “After close consultation with industry it was evident that a level 2 Modern Apprenticeship was in high demand. Lantra is proud to announce that the frameworks are now available for immediate use by training providers in Scotland.” “The new level 2 Modern Apprenticeship framework is a positive step forward for industry and coupled with the revised level 3 framework, it provides learners and employers alike with the progression opportunities needed.” A Modern Apprenticeship is a package of learning and qualifications combined with practical work experience gained through employment in a chosen industry. It can be delivered entirely in the workplace or through a combination of workplace and learning at an approved college or training provider. The benefit is that the Modern Apprenticeship framework includes relevant industry skills combined with core skills required by employers, such as communication, working with others, problem solving, ICT and numeracy. Many businesses offer Modern Apprentice places across Scotland because they understand the benefits that apprentices bring. Brian Sangster, Chair of BAGMA’s South of Scotland Region said: “It has been recognised for some time that the Modern Apprenticeships in our industry have been in need of a review. A considerable amount of work has gone into creating a framework that suits today’s high tech industry and I feel that the new frameworks will now suit our needs. It was important to create a level 2 framework which will give a number of apprentices who may not have attained a Level 3 the opportunity to have their skills level recognised.” Willie Fergusson concluded: “Within the coming year, Lantra will be assessing several other environmental and land-based Modern Apprenticeship frameworks. This has never been more important as the Scottish Government continues to encourage the uptake of Modern Apprenticeships we need to ensure the frameworks are completely up-to-date and fit for purpose and that the environmental and land based sector fully utilises the Modern Apprenticeships on offer .” ENDS ISSUED BY: Lantra Press Office – contact Paula Smyth, Marketing, Communication and Project Co-ordinator at scotland.media@lantra.co.uk or call 028 79631304.
