7 June PR 1369 New Chair and Trustees Sought for Lantra Sector Skills Council Lantra, the Sector Skills Council for environmental and land-based industries, is seeking a new Chair to replace its outgoing Chair, Dr Gordon McGlone. Four positions on Lantra’s 13 member Board are also being sought. Lantra is particularly targeting its 17 environmental and land-based industries in its search to replace Dr McGlone, who completes eight successful years in post at the end of 2010. Lantra works with its 230,000 businesses to champion the sector as professional, hi-tech and essential to the UK economy. It encourages people to value and take up skills and development opportunities available to them, including pointing them towards funding opportunities for training and skills. Its 17 industries are made up of agricultural crops; agricultural livestock; animal care; animal technology; aquaculture; environmental conservation; equine; farriery; fencing; fisheries management; floristry; game and wildlife management; horticulture, landscape and sports turf; land-based engineering; production horticulture; trees and timber; and veterinary nursing. The Lantra Chair promotes employer engagement, business development and skills enhancement across the sector and is now supported in the strategic development of Lantra’s goals, values and performance by four National Chairs in England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales. Following its governance rules, Lantra is currently also seeking four non-executive trustees to join the Board and Lantra is anticipating they will have a strong background in the environmental or land-based sector or in education and be able to reflect such views.
