Staff from local builder and developer Larkfleet supported a recruitment event held by new Greater Peterborough University Technical College (GPUTC).

GPUTC is a brand new technical education facility at the Park Crescent campus in Peterborough. Due to open in 2016, the state-of-the-art facility houses separate engineering and construction workshops, science and computer labs as well as social and communal areas.

The college has been holding a number of recruitment days with the support of local employers, such as Larkfleet, to help showcase the various courses on offer to prospective students who will be aged from fourteen to nineteen years old.

Karl Hick, CEO of Larkfleet, said: “It is clear that our industry needs advanced technical skills for the future. As a company we are committed to expanding our support for training the next generation of construction professionals. We were therefore delighted to attend recent recruitment events and give students a taste of how we work and the areas of construction we cover.

“As an employer sponsor of GPUTC, we are able to work with teachers to create projects that focus on real-life industry relevant challenges. We are also able to offer students support through mentoring, work experience and access to our facilities here at Larkfleet.”

Among the Larkfleet staff attending the most recent UTC event were Adrian Evans, joint managing director of Larkfleet Homes, and trainee architect David Laidler.

Karl Hick added: “David’s success at Larkfleet has been dependent on the link between his training and his work with our teams. It is this success that we hope to re-create by our relationship with the UTC.

“The college opens in September 2016 and I encourage students who are interested in learning more about the construction industry to register now.”

Prospective students and parents are welcomed to attend the next GPUTC open day, where they will be able to see the fantastic facilities for themselves and find out more about the courses on offer. This will be held on Thursday 4 February 2016 from 6 to 8pm.  Further details can be found at www.gputc.com.
