WIMBLEDON’S LONDON ENDURO RACE SEES INDIVIDUALS COVER 120KM IN 12 HOURS
On Saturday 13thJune 2015, over 150 endurance runners gathered on Wimbledon Common to take part in the annual 12-hour endurance race, The London Enduro.
The event began at 7pm and saw participants take part in either an overnight 50km race or an overnight 12-hour option, where runners had to cover as much distance as possible in the set time. The 12-hour race allowed both solo runners and teams of either two, three to four or five to six people to take part.
Richard Xerri, Founder and Director at Perseverance Events says: “The London Enduro is now in its second year and is proving to be a popular event in the endurance running calendar. It’s definitely not for the faint-hearted and being at night means that there are added challenges. The feedback from this year’s event has been incredible and it was great to see so many regular endurance runners taking part.”
The 10km loop covered an undulating off-road, traffic-free course through woodland trails, rarely used paths and open fields of Wimbledon Common.
Winners of the 12-hour race were Flavio Fernandes who completed 12 laps in 12:03:06 (120km) and Alice Travers with 10 laps in 12:19:21 (100km).
Winners of the 50km event were Mat Gallagher with a finishing time of 4:03:58 and Jana Studzinski with 5:40:58.
“Offering a 12-hour endurance event in London means that runners don’t have to travel miles to take part in the event. We even had Rob Young, the MarathonManUK join us and take part in the team event. He really enjoyed the challenging course and getting to know the other competitors, while continuing to raise money for good causes,” says Richard Xerri, Founder and Director at Perseverance Events.
