Framfab sets Sweden's Speaking Clock for the future Stockholm, March 8, 2000 Framfab is responsible for the development of the software for Ms Clock's voice. In no time at all, Framfab has managed to produce a solution that naturally needs to be extremely precise in its functions. The actual Ms Clock computer is a PC-based server equipped with the operating system Linux. For the system to work an entire chain of components is required, all of which have been copied in a back-up version to ensure operational security. In other words, there are now two Ms Clock computers that function independently. A third computer monitors operations, and it can also be used as a speaking machine via manual switch-over. Every ten seconds, the program checks what time the system clock registers and then picks out the sound files to play. The playback of tone signals can be finely adjusted from within just a couple of micro seconds up to a second before the actual stroke of the clock in order to compensate for delays in the telephone network system. When adjustments occur, a configuration file is recorded once every minute, making it possible to reconfigure Ms Clock without having to restart the system.
