IKEA's First E-commerce Site Pre-Released IKEA today pre-released www.IKEA.se, an e-commerce site built by Framfab and hosted by Framfab's hosting subsidiary Driftbolaget. The site is the first in a series that will ultimately cover most of IKEA's 25 international markets. The official launch will be on August 7, in conjunction with the Swedish release of the new IKEA catalogue. Initially, about 700 of IKEA's products are offered on-line. The range will be expanded later. "This is the first launch in a long continued effort within IKEA to embrace the Internet and e-commerce. We are very satisfied with the relationship with Framfab", said Nils Larsson, IKEA Sweden's Internet Manager. The Swedish pilot site was initially supposed to have been launched earlier this year. "We think that IKEA did the right thing, when they delayed the launch to ensure that they could handle a large number of orders from day one", Jonas Birgersson, CEO Framfab, said in a comment. "We at Framfab are great fans of IKEA and IKEA's company culture. It is therefore a great honour and inspiration for us to work together with IKEA as they enter the Network Economy." The site system has been built on top of Framfab Software's global web content management system CM and Microsoft's Internet Site Server Commerce Edition. With CM, IKEA's own staff can build locally adapted web sites with a minimum of effort. The system also allows IKEA to easily reuse functionality globally over a multitude of web sites.
