Identity Theft Seminar to Aid Law Enforcement Officials on Trends and Investigative Techniques

Tempe, Ariz. – (April 4th, 2011)  A recent report issued by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) shows that identity theft tops the list of consumer complaints to the federal agency for the 11th consecutive year. The state of Washington ranks 17th nationwide with the most identity theft complaints filed to the FTC, according to its annual Consumer Sentinel Network report. The Spokane C.O.P.S (Community Oriented Policing Services) and LifeLock will host a free one-day training on Monday, April 11 open to chiefs, sheriffs, investigative supervisors, fraud unit investigators, patrol officers and community policing personnel.

The one-day training will provide participants with an in-depth look at the various generations of identity theft as well as information on new scams and the most effective policing and investigative strategies.  Law enforcement agents will have the opportunity to see and use the same tools identity thieves are using to advance the crime.

As incidents of identity theft continue across the country, law enforcement officials are being pressured by residents throughout their communities to find a way to curb the crime.  LifeLock, Inc., an industry leader in identity theft protection has hosted more than 50 identity theft seminars for law enforcement since October 2008, reaching more than 4,000 law enforcement officials representing more than 1,400 different agencies.
