  • LightLab Sweden gets an exclusive right to commercialize the technology behind UV Boost™
  • NTU Singapore gets a royalty on LightLab Sweden’s sales of UV Boost™

End of 2014 LightLab Sweden entered into a joint research collaboration with Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore), and then in fall of 2015 applied for a joint patent on a technology to increase the light output, and thereby the energy efficiency of UV light sources by light extraction technology.

After LightLab Sweden’s development of the technology and with evaluation by key clients, the technology, under the product name of UV Boost™, was launched in October 2016. UV Boost™ is a nanostructured optical coating, which increases the UV output power from existing UV lamps, sleeves and UV transparent protective windows by up to 15 percent.

LightLab Sweden and NTUitive Pte Ltd, the innovation and enterprise company of NTU, have now signed an agreement giving LightLab Sweden exclusive rights to commercialize the joint intellectual property around UV Boost™ and with a 5 percent royalty to NTUitive on LightLab Sweden’s sales of UV Boost™.

“We are very pleased that the research collaboration project with NTU, which was initiated less than two years ago, has now reached a phase where the research collaboration for parts of the developed technology can be transformed into a commercial agreement between the parties”, says Johan Tingsborg, CEO LightLab Sweden.

Dr Lim Jui, CEO, NTU Innovation and NTUitive, said:  “This collaboration between industry and academia has sped up the translation of the technology into UV Boost™, an innovation of utility and benefit to society.  UV Boost™ is environmentally-friendly and results in high energy-savings.  Bringing academic research to the marketplace is one of the core responsibilities of NTUitive and I am glad that we have achieved another milestone with UV Boost™.”
