ATEX installation fits the bill at British Gypsum
Two AC37AV-CFA Special Heavy Duty ATEX Approved vacuum cleaner units have been installed at British Gypsum, Barrow Works in Leicestershire.
British Gypsum, part of the Saint Gobain Group, is the UK’s leading manufacturer of plasterboard, dry lining systems and plaster based products.
The Company called in Nilfisk-CFM when one old vacuum unit in use was beyond economic repair. A second machine in use was being hired at considerable cost.
The two new vacuum cleaner units were required as a ‘front end’ to a network of existing pipes within the multi-floor grinding mill and mixing tower. The mixing tower is classified as Zone 22 and requires ATEX Approved vacuum cleaners for the safe removal of potentially explosive dusts, both units supplied are tested and certified for use in an ATEX Zone 22 environment.
Peter Donohoe, Engineering Manager for British Gypsum commented on the solution provided by Nilfisk-CFM; ‘The Sales Engineer conducted a full survey of our previous system and recommended a workable solution that allowed for the retrofitting of the new high power vacuum units. Noise levels were of prime concern due to the location of the units and the potential impact on local residents.’
‘The units are much quieter and performing very well, if required we can manoeuvre units to the spillage rather than connect to the network of pipes. It is therefore much easier to segregate the waste when required.’
The heavy duty, high power vacuums are designed specifically for collecting large quantities of powders or granular material. The units feature a 1000 litre bottom unload container which is easy to pullout and discharge.
