Linde RSS expands REMEO® offering at Nashville facility
Livingston, Tennessee, U.S., January 5, 2012 – Nearly 40 percent more ventilator-dependent respiratory patients now have a better chance of being liberated from mechanical ventilators with the completion of an expansion at the Linde RSS REMEO® ventilator treatment facility in Nashville, Tennessee. Linde RSS operates a cutting edge respiratory treatment program at the facility in partnership with Bordeaux Long Term Care, owned and operated by the Metropolitan Nashville Hospital Authority.
The REMEO unit was recently expanded from 16 beds to 22 beds and includes a commensurate increase in therapists, gases and equipment that are included in the REMEO program for innovative care of mechanically ventilated patients.
Linde RSS, located in Livingston, Tennessee, is an affiliate of Linde North America, which is a member of The Linde Group, a world-leading healthcare, gases and engineering company. Bordeaux Long Term Care is a leader inTennessee providing intermediate and skilled nursing, rehabilitation therapy and palliative care.
REMEO, Linde’s innovative care program, specializes in the integrated care of long-term ventilated patients. Derived from the Latin remeo ("I return home"), REMEO combines the expertise, staff and equipment to help manage the entire care path between the time when a patient no longer needs monitoring in an intensive care unit and REMEO homecare.
Jason E. Boyd, FACHE, Interim CEO, Metropolitan Nashville Hospital Authority, said, “We are extremely proud of the partnership and success we have had with the REMEO unit. Our greatest accomplishment is the tremendous positive impact we have had on the lives of our patients. We are proud to be partnering with Linde RSS and expanding our services to meet the needs of the communities that we serve in middleTennessee.”
Ryan Stiles, unit manager for the REMEO treatment program inNashville, said, “The partnership we have with Bordeaux Long Term Care has been extremely successful. We’ve been able to send patients home, on average, after 41 days of treatment. Were it not for the REMEO program, these individuals would be on mechanical ventilators for unlimited periods of time. The expansion of theNashvillefacility allows us to treat many more patients who otherwise would need to travel to one of our other facilities for this unique treatment.”
Linde RSS operates 10 similar REMEO treatment programs in the U.S. Gene Gantt, REMEO business development manager, said, “The REMEO teams at these facilities have been consistently liberating patients from long-term mechanical ventilation, or tracheotomy, resulting in medical cost savings of tens of millions of dollars per year. Most importantly, however, we are changing the expected outcomes and quality of life for patients and their families.”
In recognition of its proven effectiveness, REMEO treatment services recently received aCenterofExcellence Awardfrom theAmericanCollegeof Chest Physicians (ACCP), the world authority in chest medicine. Gantt said, “REMEO was given this award because of our clinical results and expertise in mechanical ventilation, our broad knowledge base from adults to pediatrics, and our global reach. This recognition validates that we are a global leader in complex respiratory care.”
