Murray Hill and New Providence, N.J., October 6, 2011 -- One of the great challenges today is to find competitive ways to meet our energy needs while minimizing the impact on the environment. Linde North America believes that gasification is one of the key technologies available which will help meet these challenges.

Linde will be showcasing its broad range of technologies and experience which support gasification technology at the Gasification Technologies Council Conference to be held at the San Francisco Marriott Marquis in San Francisco, California, October 9-12, 2011.

Linde North America is a member of The Linde Group, a world-leading gases and engineering company. The Gasification Technologies Council promotes a better understanding of the role gasification can play in providing the power, chemical and refining industries with economically competitive and environmentally conscious technology options to produce electricity, fuels and chemicals.

Gasification converts carbon-containing materials, such as coal, heavy hydrocarbons, waste and biomass, into electricity and other valuable products, such as chemicals, fuels, substitute natural gas, and fertilizers. The process uses intense pressure, combined with oxygen, to convert carbon-based materials directly into syngas for downstream processing and use.

Claus Nussgruber, head of business development, Clean Energy, for Linde North America, said, “Linde has a portfolio of proven technologies and a long history of operating experience that will play an increasingly important role in this exciting quest for clean energy in the U.S. and around the world.”

Conference participants are invited to visit Linde at its booth (#59) to discuss the various Linde technologies and services in support of gasification projects, including large-scale air separation units, syngas processing technology including the Rectisol® process for purification of syngas, feasibility and value integration studies, as well as a full range of engineering, gases supply, and operations services.

Linde currently operates four gasification-based facilities, including one in Singapore operating on heavy residue feed. “Linde is also active in a number of developing projects, including the Texas Clean Energy Project, which is a power/poly-gen project, located in Penwell, Texas, that will capture 90 percent of its carbon dioxide which will be used for enhanced oil recovery (EOR),” Nussgruber said.

Chris Geraghty, business development director – Clean Energy, Linde North America and Thomas Haberle, director, global market development – business solutions, chemicals and oil & gas, will present a paper titled: “Experience in Value-Engineering and Optimized Integration in Poly-Gen Gasification Projects,” during the 1:30 session on Monday, October 10.

The Linde Group is a world-leading gases and engineering company with around 49,100 employees working in more than 100 countries worldwide. In the 2010 financial year, it achieved sales of EUR 12.9 billion (USD 17.9 billion).
