Murray Hill and New Providence, NJ, August 28, 2012-- Two Linde North America plants in Texas have achieved a significant safety milestone – 12 years of operation without a Linde lost time incident.  The HYCO plants, located inClearLake andLaPorte,Texas, produce hydrogen and carbon monoxide. The LaPorte plant also makes methanol.

Linde North America is a member of The Linde Group, a world-leading gases and engineering company. The production processes at the two sites involve gases at high pressures at temperature ranges from 180°C to 1400°C.

Kevin A. McClain Sr., HYCO Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) manager for both plants, said, “Management personnel at these facilities preach that all accidents are preventable from the first day a new employee steps onto the site. This is not only a Linde message, but one that resonates with our on-site contract maintenance employees as well. The production processes demand that everyone has to be aware of what is going on at all times to ensure the safety of everyone else.”

The LaPorte site achieved the 12-year milestone, logging over 1.2 million Linde worker hours since the last lost time incident. Counting contractor hours, LaPorte has almost 2.5 million hours with no incidents. TheClearLakesite achieved the same milestone, recording over 850,000 Linde worker hours worked since its last lost time and 1.1 million hours including on-site contractors.

Tim Wren, head of SHEQ for Linde in North America, said, “The record of these HYCO plants is outstanding. It shows a sustained commitment to the safety of our people, which is one of the cornerstones of Linde’s SHEQ policy.”
