Stockmann to redesign its Jumbo department store
Stockmann plc, Press release, 27 June 2019 at 9:00 EET
Stockmann has renewed its lease agreement at the Jumbo shopping centre, and plans to fully redesign its department store at the shopping centre during 2020. This move will strengthen Stockmann’s position as the most popular fashion retailer in the Helsinki Metropolitan area.
The redesign of the Jumbo department store is part of Stockmann’s ongoing transformation process, which targets to position Stockmann as a fashion & style authority. Stockmann is already the most popular place to shop for fashion in the Helsinki Metropolitan area (source: Finnish Commerce Federation, 2019), and fashion sales at the Jumbo department store are the second highest among Stockmann’s locations after the Helsinki Flagship. After the redesign, the Jumbo department store will offer an extensive and increasingly unique selection of clothes and accessories for women, men and children.
”We will renovate our department store from top to bottom. We want to offer a diverse selection of fashion suitable for work, leisure and special occasions. In line with our customers’ wishes, we will focus on high-quality and responsible products. I believe that our department store’s unique selection and new look, and the Jumbo shopping centre’s excellent location will attract shoppers from a large area”, says Nora Malin, Director, Corporate Development at Stockmann.
In addition to fashion, the new department store will focus on cosmetics. Following the renovation, the beauty world will be enlarged and will have more brands in its selections. New products will be added to the popular natural cosmetics range, in particular. The selections will also feature brands, such as Chanel and Kiehl’s, which can’t be bought elsewhere in the Helsinki metropolitan area other than Stockmann. The home collection will offer a wide range of inspiring and attractive interior decoration solutions. There will be special focus on Finnish design products, which are also loved by the international tourists shopping at Jumbo.
Jumbo shopping center is the largest shopping center in Finland in terms of sales for the seventh year in a row (source: Finnish Council of Shopping Centers).
”Stockmann has been an important part of Jumbo’s story since the expansion was completed. It is great that our cooperation continues and Stockmann’s attractive offer is even more available for the shopping centre’s visitors”, says Kati Kniivilä, Investment Director, Real Estates at Elo Pension Insurance, the owner of the Jumbo shopping centre.
Stockmann opened its department store at Jumbo in 2005. Following the redesign, most of the space in the two-floor store will be in Stockmann’s own use. According to plans, the Food Market Herkku will not continue with its own store at the Jumbo department store. However, Food Market Herkku’s operations will continue at the other Stockmann department stores in Finland. The Jumbo department store’s offering will continue to include a toy store and a hair salon. In response to customers’ wishes, there are also plans for a café to be opened in connection with the department store.
