Commissioning of the new 400 kV Hall substation to strengthen Stockholm's power grid
The new 400 kV Hall substation, located south of Stockholm, has been successfully handed over from Linxon to Svenska kraftnät. This substation upgrade is the foundation for future development and marks a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to modernize and expand Sweden's power infrastructure.
The Hall substation, supplied by Linxon, replaces an aging substation that had reached the end of its operational lifespan. The new substation features advanced air-insulated switchgear (AIS) technology, ensuring enhanced reliability and efficiency in power transmission.
This upgrade is part of Svenska kraftnät's broader strategy to meet the growing energy demands of Sweden's urban population and support the country's transition to a sustainable energy future. The government has assigned Svenska kraftnät the task to maintain and develop the Swedish national grid for electricity. The national grid power lines transport electricity from wind, hydro and nuclear power stations to regional and local electricity networks, which in turn transmit the electricity on to the consumers. The long-term strategy is to build new power lines to meet tomorrow's electricity needs.
Key highlights of the Hall substation project:
- Modernization and expansion: The project involved the design, supply, construction, and commissioning of the new 400 kV substation, which will play a crucial role in stabilizing the regional power grid.
- Enhanced reliability: The new AIS technology provides improved operational reliability and reduces the risk of power outages, ensuring a stable electricity supply for the Stockholm region.
- Sustainability focus: The project aligns with Svenska kraftnät's commitment to sustainability by incorporating environmentally friendly practices and technologies throughout the construction and operational phases.
Angel Guijarro, Managing Director of Linxon Europe, expressed his satisfaction with the project's completion: "We are delighted to have successfully delivered the Hall substation, which will significantly enhance the reliability and capacity of the power grid in the Stockholm area. This project underscores our commitment to providing innovative and sustainable solutions for our customers."
The commissioning of the Hall substation is a testament to Linxon’s and Svenska kraftnät's dedication to ensuring a robust and resilient power infrastructure for Sweden. As the country continues to grow and evolve, projects like these are essential to meeting the increasing energy needs of its population while supporting the transition to a greener future.
