Linxon awarded 380 kV EPC contract for Taibah power plant turnkey substation in Madinah, Saudi Arabia
Linxon has been selected by Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) to build on turnkey basis the 380 kV Taibah power plant substation in Madinah area of Saudi Arabia.
The 380 kV Taibah station is essential for power evacuation from the proposed generation units of the Taibah power plants. The contract involves design, engineering, material procurement, civil construction, installation, testing and commissioning of the 380 kV GIS substation. Linxon supply includes a 380 kV GIS switchgear supplied from Hitachi Energy Saudi Arabia, a 380 kV reactor, automation works and balance of plant. Linxon’s Taibah power plant substation will be supervised by SEC, with a completion timeline of 26 months.
The Taibah Independent Power Plant (IPP) projects, executed by Saudi Power Procurement Company and supervised by Saudi’s Ministry of Energy, are part of an energy mix plan. Their purpose is to meet future load demand, enhance reliability and ensure energy security in the Madina area. The projects are delivered in two phases (Taibah 1 IPP & Taibah 2 IPP) and aim to support localization of gas turbines and the utilization of carbon capture technologies. The Taibah IPP project is one of the largest combined cycle power plant projects with a capacity of 3.6 GW and will be operational in 2027.
