Linxon awarded contract by Svenska kraftnät for renewal of 400 kV substation in Sweden
The project will reinforce Sweden’s transmission grid and enable greater power transfer capacity to support growing demand.
Linxon has signed a contract with Svenska kraftnät, Sweden’s transmission system operator, for the renewal of the 400 kV Breared substation in Halland County, Sweden. The project is an important investment in Sweden’s national transmission grid and will help strengthen power transmission to southwestern parts of the country, where electricity demand continues to increase.
As part of the project, Linxon will deliver a new state-of-the-art 400 kV substation and replace the existing installation, which has been in operation since 1982. The scope also includes the relocation of existing distribution and transmission overhead lines to accommodate the new facility, which will be constructed north of the current station.
Linxon’s turnkey scope includes engineering, civil works, 400 kV air insulated switchgear, construction of a new control building, installation, testing, and commissioning. The upgraded substation will feature modern control, protection, and communication systems designed to enhance operational flexibility, reliability, and grid performance.
The Breared substation is a node in Sweden’s transmission grid and plays a vital role in supplying safe and reliable power. The renewal project will help to address existing capacity constraints and support planned transmission line upgrades on the Breared–Söderåsen and Horred–Breared corridors, enabling higher power transfers and supporting future electricity demand.
The investment forms part of Svenska kraftnät’s ongoing efforts to strengthen and modernize the national grid in response to electrification, industrial growth, and increasing demand for reliable power transmission.
Construction of the new substation is scheduled to commence in 2026, with completion planned for 2029.
"We are proud to support Svenska kraftnät in the modernization of Sweden’s transmission infrastructure. We look forward to delivering this project in close collaboration with Svenska kraftnät, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality execution that will support secure power delivery for decades to come," says Angel Guijarro, Managing Director of Linxon Europe.
