The Pearl of Africa Children’s Choir Internationally acclaimed children’s choir from Uganda currently touring the UK in support of the Molly & Paul Childcare Foundation in Kampala. The choir’s members are some of the 1.5million orphans in Uganda as a result of HIV/AIDs, disease and war, and are currently being cared for in schools funded by the Foundation. Their performance is a highly visual mix of traditional African music, dance and drumming, with heart-felt dramatisation. Supported by two amazing York based community choirs: Millegro York Contemporary Choir More than just another choir with the same proud repertoire, Millegro offers a modern, eclectic mix of style and vitality, bringing a fresh approach to singing. Drawing its strength from the surrounding community with up to 60 members, in return Millegro provides an honest opportunity for artistic expression through the simple joy of singing, guided by experienced musicians Ewa Salecka and Greg Birch. York City Gospel Choir Celebrating the powerful and inspirational tradition of gospel music from around the world, this 40-member choir has a growing reputation as one of the foremost choirs in the North of England. Drawing on the best musical talents from the many communities and churches in and around York, the choir performs a range of traditional and contemporary gospel, under the direction of Kofi and Heather Mensah. All proceeds from the evening will go directly to the Molly & Paul Foundation and will be used to ensure that it can continue to give thousands of children the chance of a brighter future.
