Best of the Bands – York Opera House – 14th May 2010 Aynt Skynyrd – York Grand Opera House- 29th May 2010 Back by popular demand Aynt Skynyrd with such classic songs as Sweet Home Alabama, Simple Man and Freebird to name a few. This evening will transport you down to the Deep South with the amazing sounds of Southern Rock!!! The craftsmanship displayed by this band is the reason they are the UK’s Official Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute! A night not to be missed!!!

Aynt Skynyrd… but sure sounds like ‘em. What’s more the authentic show these folks put on sure looks like ‘em! Lynyrd Skynyrd were (are) the definitive Southern Rock Band and watching and listening to Aynt Skynyrd lets the audience know these guy’s have got to be the definitive UK Skynyrd tribute band. Whilst the members of this outfit may not be carbon copies of the originals visually, like a good whisky, they are infused with many flavours which once tasted leaves audiences replete with authenticity yet craving for more. Musically there is no doubt as to what you’re getting here: ‘Southern Fried, Smokey Bourbon, Florida distilled Rock ‘N’ Roll!’ The craftsmanship displayed musically and vocally by this band leaves no doubt that a thorough musical apprenticeship has been served and honed all over the world. Though of British heritage, the cornucopia of everything Skynyrd cascades out from the very soul of these performers. This is what Lynyrd Skynyrd were all about? Influenced by British Bands (thus completing the circle) their music comes from somewhere deep down inside. To paraphrase the late great Ronnie Van Zant: ‘These boys (and girls) don’t come from out of Dixie, but Dixie sure comes out of these boys!’ BEST OF THE BANDS 2010 The time has come for another year of Best of the Bands. This wonderful competition aims to encourage local school bands by giving them the chance to showcase their work. Best of the Bands is regarded by many as one of the biggest annual musical events for young people in York. Various shops and organisations within York sponsor the event. All have donated prizes for the various awards to further encourage strong performances from all the bands. One sponsor, Aynt Skynyrd (the UK’s Official Tribute to Lynyrd Skynyrd) knows how difficult it is to get in to the music industry. York born and raised, the band has a philosophy on recreating the songs of the Southern rock’n’roll band with such hits as Sweet Home Alabama and Free Bird, and it’s a simple ethos which they hope to share with the contestants of Best of the Bands: Don’t play it, feel it. This applies to all music; whether playing covers or original material. This has been born out of years of seeing many bands play songs quite adequately and in some instances very skilfully, but with no soul or feeling. Aynt Skynyrd want to show their support to the wealth of talent from local bands within York’s schools, and work closely with the bands to share knowledge and advice, and hopefully get them on the right track to success within the industry. The winning band from the Best of the Band’s competition will be invited to open Aynt Skynyrd’s York gig at The Grand Opera House on 29th May 2010. But how are the awards decided? Well only the best of judges will do for our bands. This year those select people are; Mick Sawyer (Aynt Skynyrd founder and music promoter), Tivvy Gomersall (Aynt Skynyrd founder), singer/songwriter Holly Taymar, Photographer Rob Scott (Discerning Images), and two more mystery guest judges. And what a task they have! Talented School Bands from across York will take to the stage to battle it out. With just 8 minutes of performance time to impress the judges just who will have what it takes to stand out from the crowd and steal the award of BEST LIVE BAND? Alan Raw - from BBC Radio Raw Talent takes to the stage as compere and after a brief overview of the evening, he passes the mic back to the real stars of the night. Let battle commence! Each band is asked to perform two tracks, an original piece and a cover of their choice. In addition to the chance of winning some top prizes including opening the Aynt Skynyrd gig at the Grand Opera House York, every band has the opportunity to professionally record a short demo, be part of a Best of the Bands compilation CD, receive a live recording of the event and all performers receive a 'goody bag' of promotional items. This is truly an opportunity not to be missed by up and coming bands. Tickets for Aynt Skynyrd: £17.00; Best of the Bands: £6.00 Tickets for both events on sale from Grand Opera House York box office on 0884 847 2322 or online at www.grandoperahouseyork.org.uk
