Guys and Dolls draws near
At the Grand Opera House York over 70 children and young people are commencing dress rehearsals for a production of the classic Broadway musical Guys and Dolls. Over 150 people auditioned to be in the show back in May and the 75 successful up-and-coming actors are now practically living at the theatre as they rehearse the show in just two weeks! This is the annual Stage Experience production at the Grand Opera House York. The project has been running for 10 years and gives local young people aged 10-21 the opportunity to work with a professional director (assisted by Stage Experience favourite Sam Coulson), in a professional theatre, and put on a show during their summer holidays. Many auditioned have gone on to work in the West End, including Twinnie Lee Moore, who has recently been offered the part of Velma in Chicago alongside Guys and Dolls tells the story of a group of small-time gamblers and the ladies in their lives! Nathan Detroit bets his pal Sky Masterson that he can't make the next lady he sees fall in love with him, and when the next lady happens to be the prim and proper neighbourhood missionary Sarah Brown, the stage is set for an evening of high spirited entertainment, set to the toe tapping beat of Frank Loesser's thrilling score. Featuring numbers such as Sit Down You're Rocking The Boat, Luck Be A Lady Tonight and Take Back Your Mink, the show brings to life the Broadway of the 1940's, inhabited by gamblers, nightclub dancers and members of the Salvation Army in search of sinners to cure.
