Liverpool Empire Theatre Press Release HUNT FOR LOCAL YOUNG ACTRESS TO HELP THE WIRRAL STRIKE BACK! Liverpool’s Bang on Top Productions, creators of hit comedy plays One Night in Istanbul and A Tale of Two Chippys, are searching for a talented local young actress to play Anthea in their brand new play Brick Up: The Wirral Strikes Back – following in the footsteps of the smash hit show Brick Up the Mersey Tunnels. Brick Up: The Wirral Strikes Back, which runs at the Liverpool Empire from 7-18 September 2010, is the latest offering from acclaimed Liverpudlian playwright Nicky Allt and comes in the wake of One Night in Istanbul enjoying a successful second run in Liverpool and a sell-out premiere in Dublin this Spring. Bang on Top Productions are known for nurturing fresh young local talent. Liverpool lad Darren Farley was hand picked by the team to make his theatre debut in One Night in Istanbul in 2009, after they spotted his impressions on Youtube, and his acting career his since blossomed. He will also be appearing in Brick Up: The Wirral Strikes Back. Now, Nicky Allt and Bang on Top are giving young women (aged 18 or above) the chance to audition for the part of Anthea, a character in her late teens. Auditions for this role will take place on 6 August – see notes to editors for details of how to apply. The original Brick Up the Mersey Tunnels has become legendary over its four smash hit runs. Brick Up was successful for bringing the popular masses back to Liverpool theatre and has subsequently inspired the upturn and popularity of Liverpool theatre culture. After the phenomenal success of One Night In Istanbul in 2009 which holds the record of being “the fastest selling Liverpool Play of all time” and the subsequent return to the Liverpool Empire in 2010, Brick Up: The Wirral Strikes back premieres at the Liverpool Empire in September 2010. This hilarious show takes a tongue in cheek look at the recent economic downturn and the traditional rivalries between Liverpool and the Wirral. Bang on Top Productions can’t wait to hear from performers hoping to seize the amazing opportunity of appearing in what is set to be another hit show. NOTES TO EDITORS Those wishing to audition should email bangontopcasting@gmail.com with their contact information and details of any relevant experience, plus a recent photograph (this need not be professional). Auditions will be held on 6 August at Bang on Top’s Rodney Street offices, and applicants who have been successful in obtaining an audition will be notified of their time slot and audition details via email. Please note these are not open auditions and those interested must apply via email in the first instance.
