“Folk music doesn’t get any cooler than Kate Rusby” Q magazine

The defining voice of contemporary English Folk Music, Kate Rusby’s exquisite interpretations of Traditional songs and finely wrought self-penned tunes have won her an audience that reaches beyond the genre. A rare achievement for a folk artist but entirely understandable given Rusby’s expressive vocals that invest whatever she sings with irresistible emotional depth. Sometimes known as The Barnsley Nightingale, she has headlined various British national folk festivals, and is regarded as one of the most famous English folk singers of contemporary times. In 2001 The Guardian described her as "a superstar of the British acoustic scene." In 2007 the BBC website described her as "The first lady of young folkies". She is one of the few folk singers to have been nominated for the Mercury Prize. On stage Rusby delivers every time. Her bands never cease to amaze, always comprising the cream of Britain’s folk instrumentalists, while her between-song stories and introductions are cut through with a hugely engaging Yorkshire wit. She is truly an artist to be cherished by lovers of good music everywhere. Kate Rusby will be performing at the Grand Opera House York on Sunday 19 September at 7.30pm. Tickets are priced at £21 and are available from the box office on 0844 847 2322 or online at www.grandoperahouseyork.org.uk For more information, biogs, photos or to arrange an interview please contact Celestine Dubruel on 01904 678711 or email celestinedubruel@theambassadors.com
