Liverpool Empire Theatre Press Release UK’s favourite ‘Maria’ to star in The Sound of Music at the Liverpool Empire Liverpool Empire Theatre is delighted to announce that CONNIE FISHER is confirmed to play Maria Von Trapp in the world’s best-loved musical, The Sound of Music, when it plays at the venue from 12 – 30 October 2010. Connie Fisher won the BBC One talent contest How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria in 2006, and subsequently performed the role of Maria in the West End run of The Sound of Music to rave reviews. Connie won the 2007 lastminute.com People's Choice Theatre Award for Favourite Theatre Actress and was also awarded the whatsonstage.com Theatregoers Choice Award for London Newcomer of the Year. Starring alongside Connie are two of the UK’s favourite stage performers, Michael Praed (best known for his TV role as Robin of Sherwood, his stage work and his role as Narrator on BBC’s Timewatch) as Captain Von Trapp and soprano Marilyn Hill Smith as Mother Abbess. This lavish and critically acclaimed production, direct from the London Palladium, tells the story of the Von Trapp family's flight across the mountains and works its magic once again, for young and old alike.
