Humanities PhD student awarded for Outstanding Paper
Sean Creaney, a lecturer in Childhood and Youth Studies at Stockport College, who is currently studying for his PhD in the School of Humanities and Social Science, has just been awarded ‘Outstanding Paper’ in the 2015 Emerald Literati Network Awards for Excellence, for his paper The Benefits of Participation for Young Offenders.
The paper was recently published in the Safer Communities journal (Vol. 13, Iss: 3, pp. 126-132), and argues that chances of rehabilitation of young people in the criminal justice system are improved if they are given the opportunity to influence how services are implemented.
Commenting on the award, Sean said:
"I feel privileged to receive the outstanding paper award. My peer reviewed publication was based on my PhD research on how children are involved in designing and shaping their supervision by youth justice practitioners. I am eternally grateful for the support provided to me by my Director of Studies Dr Joe Yates and supervisor Dr Janet Jamieson at the School of Humanities and Social Science."
Sean is also a Trustee of the National Association for Youth Justice (NAYJ) where he campaigns for a child-friendly youth justice and advocates the establishment of a rights-based statutory framework.
