Collections by designers of the future will be seen for the first time this week at Liverpool John Moores University’s graduate fashion shows.

Held annually, the events give final year students the chance to showcase their work on the catwalk, with professional models wearing their collections.

This year’s show takes place at 6.30pm and 8.30pm on Thursday 28 May, at LJMU’s Art and Design Academy on Duckinfield Street, off Brownlow Hill.

Lesley Peacock, BA (Hons) Fashion Programme Leader, commented: “This year the final year students have collaborated with Plexus to open the show. The project is based around the concept of upcycling denim with African print. The designs are innovative and show a way forward for creating new designs from discarded clothing. Collections will then be showcased on the catwalk as part of the end of year show at the John Lennon Art and Design Building. The collections are individual and highlight the wealth of talent created on the fashion programme, with contemporary shapes and colour creating the next new trends. Alongside the designers the fashion communication students will be showcasing their work in a static exhibition on the lower ground floor with the launch of a new magazine 'Un_Fold' created by the communication students. Visit wearefashion.co.uk to keep up with all the course developments.”

World renowned hairdresser, Andrew Collinge, is sponsoring the fashion shows, with his team from Andrew Collinge Graduates working on the models’ hair.

Entry to the LJMU catwalk shows is free but by ticket only and places must be booked in advance. For further details, call 0151 904 1216 or email lsad@ljmu.ac.uk

Also at the John Lennon Art and Design Building, from Friday 29 May until Friday 12 June, will be an open exhibition to view the work of all of this year’s graduates from the University’s School of Art and Design, including graduates of Architecture, Fine Art, Graphic Design and Illustration, Popular Music Studies and Spatial Design, as well as Fashion (Communication) and Fashion (Design). This is free to attend and will be open from 10am to 6pm on week days and from 12pm to 6pm at weekends.. No booking is required.
