LJMU will be welcoming nearly 7,000 students to the University and the city of Liverpool on Monday 8 and Tuesday 9 September with an exciting event at St George’s Hall. The event brings together essential information about University services as well as highlighting opportunities available to students thanks to LJMU's partnerships with some of the city's leading arts and cultural organisations.

In addition to welcome talks by academics and the Liverpool Students’ Union, a welcome fair will showcase a range of cultural and arts activities alongside University departments and services.

Activities include the opportunity to pose with Andy Warhol exhibition props in a photobooth from Tate Liverpool. Thanks to the University's links with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, students will be able to collect a free copy of a new book, Everything You Need To Know About Classical Music, and have it signed by co-author and Classic FM Managing Director Darren Henley at St George's Hall on Tuesday 9 September. Additionally, they will be entertained by a short performance by a pianist from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and be able to test out some musical instruments themselves.

During the event, students can sign up for exciting offers and discounts exclusive to the University so that they can enjoy performances, shows and exhibitions at the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Tate Liverpool, the Everyman and Playhouse and the Royal Court Theatre. There will also be a free open top bus tour of the city.

University teams are also promoting a range of services, from financial management to careers advice, library services and its chaplaincy, and students will be able to capture their first day at University in the LJMU photobooth which features background scenes of famous Liverpool landmarks and take part in a ‘cash grabber’ competition that promotes up-to-date advice on student loans, grants, benefits and budgeting.

The University will also be promoting its own public events, including the Roscoe Lecture series, a programme that invites some of the country's leading commentators to join the people of Liverpool in discussing the issues that really matter, using humour, cutting edge research and political insight. These free lectures offer students a chance to engage and debate society’s latest issues. The first lecture on Wednesday 1 October will feature John Fleming, Executive Vice President Europe of Ford Motor Company.

LJMU Vice-Chancellor Professor Nigel Weatherill commented: “Such is the outstanding reputation of Liverpool John Moores University that our students come from all over the world to study here and we want to ensure that they receive an inspiring and exciting introduction not only to the University, but also to the vibrant city of Liverpool. Attending university is a life-changing experience and we hope that the information at the welcome event will help our students to settle in more easily and inform them of the full range of fantastic opportunities that the University and the city have to offer.”
