A research report by the Sport and Recreation Alliance in collaboration with LJMU’s Chris Mackintosh will be informing today’s Westminster Hall debate on the Government policy on outdoor sport and recreation today from 14.30-16.00.

The Reconomics report looks at the significant contribution outdoor recreation has to the UK economy.  It considers how this promotes a healthy nation: outdoor recreation can make a significant contribution to tackling the £10 billion cost of physical inactivity, which shows its value over or alongside conventional medicine.

The debate, secured by Huw Irranca Davies MP in conjunction with the Sport and Recreation Alliance, will give MPs the opportunity to raise concerns about how Government policies have been affecting the outdoors, and also highlight innovative projects and schemes in their own constituencies.

James Allen, head of policy at the Sport and Recreation Alliance said:

"This is a great opportunity to debate outdoors issues in Parliament. We are grateful to Huw Irranca Davies for his work in securing the debate, and look forward to hearing MPs discuss the Government’s position.

"I would encourage all members to get in touch with MPs and encourage them to attend the debate. With a good turnout and lively debate we can demonstrate to the Minister how important these issues are."
