British Assistive Technology Association urges continued action to improve availability of communication aids and assistive technology in schools

Continued action to improve the availability of communications aids and assistive technology in schools is the focus of this year’s British Assistive Technology Association (BATA) AGM on Wednesday 16th January 2013, at the Oriental Club, London W1. The event, to be opened by Baroness Walmsley, BATA patron and Liberal Democrat spokesperson on Education, Young People and Families, is to feature presentations by keynote speakers Peter White MBE Disability Affairs Correspondent for the BBC and Sharon Hodgson, Shadow Education Minister responsible for Special Education Needs.

Set up to promote the rights and interests of users of Assistive Technology (AT) and the companies, organisations and professionals that serve them, BATA has played an active role in providing expert and impartial support and advice to government departments and agencies. The charity also aims to educate and inform widely on the benefits of AT and to promote British AT products and expertise at home and overseas.

There will be speeches from Peter White MBE, the BBC’s Disability Affairs Correspondent, on “Technology, Special Needs and Disability” and from Sharon Hodgson, Shadow Education Minister on “Funding Special Needs in Schools”.
