Durham schools boost grades using ground breaking new Tute+ online tuition service
Students from Seaham School of Technology and Dene Community School in Durham are to be the first in the UK to boost their grades using a groundbreaking new online tutoring service which they can access in lesson times, at homework clubs and at home. Costing the schools as little as £5 per pupil, the new service has been brought in by teachers, Claire O’Neill and Helen Feetham, in a bid to help those struggling with English and Maths to boost their grades from level 5-6 in KS3. Known as Tute+, the new service is delivered by UK qualified teachers who have been given specific training in online tutoring and uses an interactive whiteboard, chat service, voice and video to deliver lessons online. It’s highly engaging and uses the everyday technology with which students are familiar.
Before embarking on the programme students from Seaham and Dene will undergo pre and post baseline testing so that schools can demonstrate the improvement in performance resulting from the course. The brainchild of Tute Founder Sean Gardner and Teacher Wayne Harrison, the Tute+ service was launched further to the completion of a series of highly successful online Maths, English and Science trials run in schools across the North East.
Commenting on the programme Helen Feetham, Dene Community School, said: “I am keen to ensure that all our students start the new academic term on a level playing field. This brilliant new service will help us provide extra support for those pupils that need it most, without breaking the bank!”

Concluding Teacher Wayne Harrison said, “Schools need to deploy effective strategies to improve results whilst retaining a keen eye on costs. This model is proven to deliver – a year of practical experience has shown us the way forward.
“Tute can deliver online tutoring from as little as £5 per child, sometimes less. So a full half term of weekly lessons, delivered by UK qualified Teachers, will cost around £30 per student.”
