Gwynedd Council, winner of the 2011 Social Care Accolade for Improving Welsh Language Provision, has transformed its home care services with the help of inTOUCH from CACI (www.caci.co.uk) - a service optimisation and communications tool for local authorities employing mobile care workers. Gwynedd Council, which has used CACI's comprehensive care management software for several years, is committed to carrying out all business transactions in Welsh. To meet this goal, CACI worked with the Council to translate all care information in the software. As a result, Gwynedd's care workers, who use CACI's mobile solution, inTOUCH, to deliver care in the community, can now choose English or Welsh as their preferred language. This tool is the first of its kind and has transformed community social care by enabling bilingual care delivery.

Ollie Watson, Business Director at CACI comments: "With 69 percent of residents in Gwynedd speaking Welsh, this is a great example of a client challenging us to find a solution to a very real requirement. We're delighted that as a result our joint efforts have contributed to Gwynedd winning the Social Care Accolade for Improving Welsh Language Provision".

Ian Jones, Administration and Business Support Service Manager at Gwynedd Council added: "We are thrilled to have won the award for Improving Welsh Language Provision. It is fantastic to be recognised for our efforts in achieving quality home care services and to share our experience with other Councils".

By disseminating this example of innovative best practice across Wales, Gwynedd Council hopes to help raise care standards and Welsh language provision throughout the country.
