Dyslexia affects 10% of the UK population and Dyslexia Awareness Week 2013 aims to debunk the myth that dyslexia is just a difficulty with reading and spelling. It will highlight other difficulties dyslexic people face include poor short term memory, maths difficulties and poor organisational skills, while also celebrating the strengths that it can bring! The theme for this year’s Dyslexia Awareness Week is Beyond Words.

The British Dyslexia Association, (BDA), states that if unrecognised dyslexia can impact many aspects of daily life, making tasks such as reading, writing and organising almost impossible. With appropriate support, people with dyslexia can develop core skills and reach their potential from early years in education right through to the working environment.

Mark McCusker, CEO of Texthelp and Chair of the British Assistive Technology Association (BATA), comments, “Texthelp is proud to support Dyslexia Awareness week. Not only does it raise awareness of the challenges people with dyslexia face, but it also highlights the unique skill set many dyslexics can bring to the classroom and the workplace.”

Texthelp Ltd, has been at the forefront of assistive technology solutions since 1996 and is proud to have been listed as a Deloitte Fast 50 Growth Technology Company for the last 13 years. Its Read&Write Gold software has been developed to support people with dyslexia, literacy problems and English as a second language. The software’s discreet and easy-to-use toolbar works alongside familiar applications such as Word, Internet Explorer and Adobe Reader and also offers support in Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox browsers.

Texthelp has experienced continued growth with recent contracts being secured in China, UAE and locally with C2K Services for Schools (making Read&Write available to all NI schools), and the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI).
