Global leader, Turning Technologies, recognised as a company whose technology has “a direct and positive impact on teaching and learning”

Turning Technologies, global leader in hand held polling devices for real-time assessment and data collection in schools and universities, has been recognised by the judges in the Education Investor Awards 2012 as a company whose technology has “a direct and positive impact on teaching and learning”.  Shortlisted in the Use of Technology category, Turning’s handheld devices bring a new level of interactivity to lessons and lectures and enable teachers and lecturers to perform real-time assessments, instantly gauging how well their concepts have been understood. This allows them to adapt their teaching methods accordingly, address shortcomings and drive up results.  The company’s Responseware mobile response solution, which allows students to use their own web-enabled device in place of the traditional clicker, has proved particularly popular.

Turning’s popularity worldwide is reflected in its £28m turnover and burgeoning 9% growth in 2011 – 2012. The company has also grown its number one position for the seventh consecutive quarter in the audience response market, according to independent research firm Futuresource Consulting.  Since Q1 of 2011, the number of units shipped grew by 18%, with the total number of ResponseCard student response devices worldwide totalling 4m – that is 34% of all response devices shipped worldwide and more than the number two and number three providers combined.

Commenting on the short listing, Gary Morrison, General Manager, EMEA, said, “Being able to poll students in real-time and gauge their levels of understanding brings a new dynamic to teaching and one that is proven to drive up results.  Turning Technologies’ success in making it onto the short listing is a reflection of both its innovative technology and good old-fashioned teamwork.  We are thrilled!”

Now in their third year, the Education Investor Awards recognise excellence in innovation in the education sector.   The winners will be announced at a glittering gala dinner on Thursday 15th November at the Hilton Park Lane.
