World’s first learning platform designed specifically for tablets unveiled at International Learning Platform Conference
The world's first learning platform designed specifically for tablets is being unveiled today at the International Learning Platforms Conference. Developed by leading learning platform provider, Frog, the technology is the first stage of a wider vision for the future of education - personalised lessons for every student.
Rather than just creating a mobile app for the learning platform, Frog has created an entirely new system from the ground up. Gareth Davies, Managing Director at Frog explains the thinking behind the future of Frog, "We didn't want to just tick a box that says 'mobile' on it. We had a picture in our minds; a teacher sat in front of the TV at home, with a tablet device on their knee, having a glass of wine and creating their learning resources for tomorrow's lesson.
"We believe that the entire application should work on a tablet, not just one or two little bits. And we've achieved that. The results are fantastic."
The upgrade to the new release, called Frog4OS, will be provided free of charge to all Frog customers with a full maintenance agreement later this year.
The next step for Frog is to build an Amazon style recommendation service for resources within the learning platform. Based on a student's unique profile, this will allow a level of personalisation never seen before in education.
Through partnering with leading organisations such as Google, Microsoft, the Khan Academy, over 10 different MIS systems, Education City and games-based revision provider, I Am Learning and many more. Frog now has the data and resource to make all of this happen. By profiling a student based on what they do inside and outside the school, a teacher will know what makes a student tick, what motivates them, how they prefer to learn and how they process information, so they can understand their students better, and teach them in a way they want to be taught.
Gareth continues, "Tablet designed software is the first piece of the jigsaw for Frog and the beginning of a new and very exciting journey for our customers. We are about to revolutionise the way technology is used in schools."
At the conference delegates heard from I am Learning, Google and Microsoft. Frog’s complete integration with Microsoft’s Live@edu and Office 365 for education was demonstrated on the day. Schools will have seamless access through their Frog platform, and pilot schools will be reporting on their experience very soon. Frog also announced its investment in I am Learning as part of their plans to help make this vision a reality.
Commenting on the partnership with I Am Learning, Michael Wilkinson, Managing Director at the company says, “We are delighted to be working with a company that has such a desire and passion for improving education and enriching children’s' lives. We are excited to be part of Frog’s vision to be the one system for everything and to give schools an unlimited choice of resources.”
