Local School Leads the Way in ICT
Pupils from Kirktonholme Primary School will be amongst the first in the country to take part in the forthcoming Programming for Primaries awareness week
The awareness week provides a platform for likeminded organisations to shine the spotlight on the support and resources that are available to ICT departments in schools. Local technology education specialists ComputerXplorers SW Scotland who introduced the awareness initiative backed by Microsoft will be leading the class to teach pupils how to design and programme their own video game.
Explained John McGill, director of ComputerXplorers SW Scotland: “There is a drive to ensure that children in Scotland have experience of basic programming skills to help prepare them for life and work in the future and this is increasingly extending down to primary schools. As well as being good fun it encourages the development of valuable learning skills that are transferrable right across the curriculum such as logical thinking, critical reasoning, problem solving skills and persistence.
“We know how hard it is for teachers to find time away from school so we are taking these sessions to them and look forward to sharing our knowledge and helping them to deal with ICT curriculum challenges.”
ComputerXplorers has already worked with several schools in the area to help children grasp key computing skills from an early age.
