Now we´re moving a city!

After 18 years, it's finally time. LKAB is moving the commercial district from the old city centre to the new one.

To mark the occasion, LKAB is holding a three-day inaugural celebration on 1-3 September.

In 2004 news of the urban transformation in Kiruna reached the world when it was announced that the city would have to be relocated. This transformation will enable continued mining of Kiirunavaara's rich iron ore, thereby securing jobs and the transition to fossil-free steelmaking.

Now the historic day is upon us as Kiruna enters a new era when the new city centre is inaugurated.

Celebrations will include performances by artists, theatre and plenty of surprises and events for people of all ages.

You can find the programme for the inauguration and presentations on www.invigningnyakiruna.se

A press centre will be available in a conference room at Scandic Kiruna, located in the new city centre.

To gain access to the press centre, you will need a press card.

Please contact Ulrika Huhtaniska for more information.

Prior to the official opening, the area is still a construction site and is therefore not open to visitors. If you wish to meet local merchants in Kiruna's new city centre, discuss the project or take photographs before 1 September, please contact Ulrika Huhtaniska.

We wish you a warm welcome to a colourful celebration that will go down in history.
