05.10.09 £5,500 raised for charity with sky-diving Southampton Solicitors Thomas Eggar staff take to the sky for The Rose Road Association Fearless staff members from the Southampton office of Thomas Eggar LLP have helped to raise a staggering £5,500 for local charity The Rose Road Association by taking part in a skydive. Esther Smith, Partner in Employment and Hayley Bevis, Solicitor in the Corporate Commercial team, were part of the group, all raising money for the Southampton-based disabled children’s organisation by parachuting over the Salisbury countryside. A keen supporter of the Rose Road Association ‘Change my Life’ campaign, Esther said: “The whole experience was absolutely brilliant. As I sat on the side of the open door at 13,000 feet, I could feel my instructor’s heartbeat behind me and it occurred to me that if he was nervous, perhaps I should be. By that point it was too late! I was falling through a beautiful blue sky, admiring the view. You have no real sense of how fast you are falling as the only reference point is the ground, and that is too far away to put in perspective. The ‘chute went up and suddenly I was floating rather than falling, steering round in spirals as we eased towards the ground.” She added: “No broken bones, no tears, just an overwhelming desire to get back in the plane and do it again! I am thrilled to have helped raise so much money for such a worthy cause.” The Rose Road Association’s next skydive takes place on 13 February 2010, to coincide with Valentine’s weekend.
