Residents of Heathermead Court, a sheltered accommodation scheme run by Camberley-based housing association Accent Peerless Ltd, held a ‘Tea at 3’ event on Thursday 18th June and raised over £200 for the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice. The event, which was organised by Corinne Funnell, Scheme Manager at Heathermead Court, was attended by residents, friends and family from Heathermeade as well as other courts in the local area. Strawberry Cream Teas were the order of the day, while attendees pondered over the weight of a cake, how many sweets were in the jar and tried to guess the name of a cuddly toy. Corinne Funnell, explained: “Events such as these are hugely important to the residents as it allows them to feel part of a community and gives them a wonderful opportunity to invite their families and involve them in their lives. What’s more – its all for a very good cause. The Phylliss Tuckwell Hospice does amazing work for seriously ill people and their families. None of us know when we might be in their excellent care. ” Accent Peerless has approximately 250 sheltered accommodation units, in 7 schemes across the Surrey Heath area. The aim of the schemes is to promote and enable independent living for those over the age of 60, while providing a home for life. Residents have their own accommodation, with their own front door and are free to come and go as they please. All units have alarm systems which allow residents to contact either the Scheme Manager or a 24-hour Care Control Centre for assistance, which gives additional peace of mind to residents, friends and family. -ENDS- Words: 277
